Is PG+E a green monopoly?
permalink
My Green Element received an article today from The San Francisco Bay Guardian. According to their editorial, the city’s mayor, Gavin Newsome has fired the Public Utilities Commission director and overseer of Pacific Gas & Electric Co., (PG+E) Susan Leal in a shady, back-handed manner. We won’t bore you with the details of San Francisco city politics. But it is interesting to see how a perceived energy company leader in sustainability communications can face even greater public scrutiny.
The Bay Guardian argues that Leal was axed because she posed a threat to PG+E’s monopoly on providing power to the city. Groups like Let’s Greenwash This City take this argument one step further. They claim that PG+E’s sustainability efforts are set up solely to undermine political will.
My Green Element has reached out to Pacific Gas + Electric. PG+E deserves a chance to offer their side of the story on our blog. They have not returned our phone calls.
